WHO WE ARE

EDUCATION AND EARLY BEGINNINGS

Mazahir Rahim, a multi-talented director, graduated from FTII, Pune, India. He’s excelled in directing serials, music videos, award-winning documentaries, and more. He has had a fascinating journey from journalism to international film accolades.

Education and Early Career

Mazahir Rahim is a multi-talented individual with a diverse career in the world of film Journalist and Columnist and media. Here’s a summary of his achievements and career milestones:

Rahim began his career as a journalist at the age of 12. He worked for two leading newspapers in Pune, Maharashtra, and had a feature column titled “PINT SIZE THIS WEEK” for The Current, a publication by D.F. Karaka in Bombay.

After his journalism stint, Mazahir Rahim attended the Film and Television Institute of India for a three-year program in Scriptwriting and Direction. He graduated with a specialization in Direction. This laid the foundation for his career in the film industry.

In 1970, he entered Bollywood and began making films.

Unlocking the Path to Filmmaking

Entry into Filmmaking

  • Early Short Films

         His early works include documentaries on subjects like the                     Bombay Police “Operation100” and the “Women Police of India”.

  • Collaboration with Eminent Directors

         Mazahir Rahim collaborated with esteemed film directors and               subsequently assumed the role of Chief Assistant to H.S. Rawail             in the production of the blockbuster “Laila Majnu,” among other           notable projects.

  • Awards and Recognition

        While working with Films Division, Rahim earned two prestigious           National awards for his films, “New Images” and “Mughal                         Garden” in 1981. He also received a double nomination for “This Is           India” and “Mughal Gardens” at the Karlovy Vary Festival in 1983.             In total, he directed and scripted over 80 documentaries.

  • Training in Czech Republic
    Discover Mazahir Rahim’s unique training in the Czech Republic, where he mastered the art of creating polycran films using 35 mm cameras and laser-controlled projectors. Explore his four groundbreaking films, including “Indira’s Vision.”
  • Innovative Polycran Film Technique:

          This system uses three35 mm movie cameras simultaneously to record visuals and uses three laser controlled projectors to screen the film             on a 180 degrees screen. A special auditorium for the screening of these films was constructed at the Trade Fair Authority of India,New                  Delhi. It was named “Indira’s Vision”

Journey into Television Storytelling

Mazahir Rahim transitioned into directing serials and achieved success with his debut serial, “Aur Bhi Hain Raahen” in 1986. This serial, consisting of 19 episodes, was highly acclaimed and set new standards in women’s issue programming.

Notable Serials and Mini-Series

Rahim directed and produced various successful serials, including “Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad,” “Sunehre Waraq,” “Tane-Bane,” and episodes for “The Sword of Tipu Sultan” and “Parivaar,” all of which aired on Doordarshan (DD).

Telefilms and Featurettes

Rahim’s work in telefilms and featurettes includes “Agar Aap Chahein,” which won a Silver Lotus at the National Awards for Best Short Fiction Film, and other works such as “Jeena Isi Ka Naam Hai,” “Chakravyuh,” and “Nawab Buta.” 

Music Videos:

Mazahir Rahim directed several music videos for Merica/Thakral Entertainment and HMV, showcasing his versatility in the world of visual storytelling.

Relocating to Canada A New Chapter in Life

In 2007, Mazahir Rahim moved to Canada and continued to work in the film industry. He directed several short films, many of which won awards at international festivals. He also runs a filmmaking course in Toronto under “Crazy Creatives” and has supervised the production of student films.

Success in Canada

  • Award Winning Short Films                                                            Mazahir Rahim relocated to Canada and embarked on a successful career directing short films. Notably, six of his short films, including “COURTNEY & CHESTER,” “SISTERS,””THE PENITENTS,””SILENCE,” “SAY NO FOR A KISS,” and “THE DOLL’S POSTMAN,” have earned acclaim and awards at international festivals in Canada and worldwide.

In addition to these, he is working on “Legacy Eternal – Bill Sleno,” a documentary delving into the life of Bill Sleno and his journey towards medically assisted death, which is currently under production.

These achievements reflect Mazahir Rahim’s remarkable contributions to the world of filmmaking and documentary production in Canada.

  • Documentaries

         In the last three years, he produced and directed four documentaries in Toronto, showcasing his continued involvement in the world of                   filmmaking.
